Welcome to Forgers Softball
The Forgers Softball team was born after a couple of years of informal knockabouts in Inverleith Park and several chance encounters with existing ESL teams who were training in the same park.
Our first season was 2003 & after stating our goal was to win a game, we won our first 2, improving throughout that first season. Although we missed out on promotion that year, our enthusiasm continued as we dominated 2005 gaining promotion with a 15-1 season.
Our team originally consisted of mainly staff from a well known Edinburgh financial institution, which could be where the team name came from - but then it could be a belief that we were just pretending to be a softball team. Maybe it's our never say die approach, typified by our first ever league game, coming from 10 runs down in the bottom of the last innings to win.
Wherever it came from, the name stuck, & now we are a motley collection of fakers, sorry, forgers, & hope to see you either on a diamond, or at our sponsors, Avoca Bar & Grill, in Stockbridge sometime in the future.
2008 saw the Forgers back in Div 1, having dominated the Division 2 West league, intending to stay in Division 1 for more than a single season, which they did by finishing 2008 in 4th place.
2009 sees the Forgers hoping to build on their 2008 season & become a regular Div 1 team, with possible aspirations to move up to the Premier Division - who knows ?
